A key level is a price zone where the market has reacted strongly multiple times before. Support is a lower level where price has fallen to and bounced back up (many buyers). Resistance is an upper level where price has risen to and dropped back down (many sellers).
Key levels matter more in Gold than in most instruments, because millions of traders worldwide — including hedge funds and major banks — watch the same levels and place orders in the same places.

Gold rarely reacts at one precise number, so do not expect 100% accuracy.

Gold has a distinctive habit: it reacts strongly at round numbers. Levels divisible by 50 (4000, 4050, 4100) are influential, and levels divisible by 100 (4000, 4100, 4200) are the strongest of all.

One of the most important principles of key levels is role reversal: when support breaks down, it becomes resistance when price returns. Likewise, when resistance breaks up, it becomes new support.
This is the basis of the popular breakout-retest strategy: wait for price to break a level → wait for it to come back and retest that level → enter in the breakout direction with a stop loss on the other side of the level.

Good confirmation includes: a pin bar or hammer at support, an engulfing candle, or a clean H1 close above or below the level.
A level with several factors stacked on it (weekly support + a round number + the 61.8% Fibonacci, say) has a higher probability than an ordinary one.
