Staking and yield farming are ways to earn passive income from crypto without trading every day. Instead of leaving coins idle, you can put them to "work" to earn rewards. But higher yields always come with higher risk. This lesson explains the differences, how they work, and the key risks.

Staking គឺជាអ្វី? What Is Staking?

Staking គឺជាការចាក់សោ (Lock) Coin របស់អ្នកទៅក្នុងបណ្ដាញ Blockchain ដែលប្រើប្រព័ន្ធ Proof-of-Stake (ដូចជា Ethereum, Solana, Cardano)។ ការ Stake ជួយបណ្ដាញផ្ទៀងផ្ទាត់ប្រតិបត្តិការ ហើយជាថ្នូរនឹងនោះ អ្នកទទួលបានរង្វាន់ (Rewards) ជាទៀងទាត់ គិតជា APY (Annual Percentage Yield)។

Staking means locking your coins into a blockchain network that uses Proof-of-Stake (such as Ethereum, Solana, Cardano). Staking helps the network verify transactions, and in return you earn regular rewards, measured as APY (Annual Percentage Yield).

Lock-up Period

Some staking has a lock-up period — meaning you cannot withdraw coins immediately and must wait a set time (e.g. 7 or 21 days). Check this condition before you stake.

Yield Farming គឺជាអ្វី? What Is Yield Farming?

Yield Farming គឺការផ្ដល់ Liquidity (សន្ទនីយភាព) ទៅ DeFi Protocol ដោយដាក់ Coin ២ ប្រភេទជាគូ (ឧ. ETH + USDT) ចូល Liquidity Pool។ អ្នកជួញដូរផ្សេងទៀតប្រើ Pool នេះដើម្បីប្ដូរ Coin ហើយអ្នកទទួលបានចំណែកនៃ Fee ជាថ្នូរ។ ទិន្នផលច្រើនតែខ្ពស់ជាង Staking តែហានិភ័យក៏ខ្ពស់ជាងដែរ។

Yield farming means providing liquidity to a DeFi protocol by depositing two coins as a pair (e.g. ETH + USDT) into a liquidity pool. Other traders use this pool to swap coins, and you earn a share of the fees in return. Yields are often higher than staking, but the risks are also higher.

Impermanent Loss

នៅពេលអ្នកផ្ដល់ Liquidity បើតម្លៃ Coin ២ ប្រភេទប្រែប្រួលខុសគ្នាខ្លាំង អ្នកអាចទទួល Coin មកវិញតិចជាងការទុកវាស្ងៀម។ បាតុភូតនេះហៅថា Impermanent Loss — ជាហានិភ័យសំខាន់នៃ Yield Farming។

When you provide liquidity, if the two coin prices diverge significantly, you may get back less value than simply holding them. This is called impermanent loss — a key risk of yield farming.

The basic rule of DeFi: the higher the yield, the higher the risk. Staking major coins generally offers 3-6% APY. Yield farming may offer 8-20%. But if you see abnormally high APY (like 1000%+), that is almost always a warning sign of a scam or a project that will fail.
