The candlestick is the most popular chart type. Each candle shows four pieces of information for one timeframe: Open, Close, High, and Low. A green (bullish) candle means price closed higher than it opened; a red (bearish) candle means price closed lower than it opened.

A trend is the overall direction of price. There are three types: uptrend (higher highs and higher lows), downtrend (lower highs and lower lows), and sideways (ranging with no clear direction). Trading with the trend is an important core principle.
