A trading calculator is a tool — usually found on a broker's website or TradingView — that helps you work out the monetary values tied to your trade, based on the currency pair, lot size, and number of pips. Instead of calculating by hand and risking mistakes, you simply enter a few details and the tool gives you the result instantly.

To make this concrete, here are two worked examples showing how to calculate pip value and position size:

Risk you accept = 1% = $10 per trade
Stop-loss distance = 20 pips
Correct lot size = $10 ÷ (20 pips × $10 per pip at 1.0 lot)
= 10 ÷ 200 = 0.05 lot
This means that if price reaches your stop loss, the account loses only $10 (1%) — no more than that.
