A typical signal looks like: "XAUUSD BUY 4015 / SL 4005 / TP1 4025 / TP2 4040". You receive it and decide to place the order yourself on MT4/MT5. The difference from copy trading (see the Copy Trading Platforms lesson): copy trading executes automatically with verifiable statistics from a real account, whereas signals are executed manually and their statistics usually cannot be verified.

Understand the business: most signal providers earn from (1) VIP group subscription fees, (2) broker commission via IB links (they profit from your trading volume whether you win or lose), or (3) both. Ask yourself: if the signals really won as claimed, why sell them for $50/month instead of just trading them?

The gold standard of proof: a link to verifiable real-account statistics (a verified Myfxbook or an MQL5 signal) — not screenshots. Screenshots can be edited or cherry-picked to show only winners. If a provider has no verifiable track record, their claims are worthless.

What to check in the statistics: (1) at least 6 months of history, (2) win rate together with Risk:Reward — a 90% win rate means nothing if winners make 5 pips while losers cost 100, (3) maximum drawdown, (4) every signal must have a clear SL — signals with no SL or absurdly wide SLs (300+ pips on gold) are a major danger sign, (5) how they report results — do they count the losses too?

Trick 1 — multiple TPs: signals list TP1/TP2/TP3. If price touches TP1 (the nearest), they declare "WIN ✅" even if price then reverses and hits the SL. Counted this way, the win rate can be wildly inflated. Trick 2 — deleting messages: losing signals are removed from the channel, leaving only winners. Trick 3 — opposite groups: run several groups, telling some to Buy and others to Sell — whichever group was right becomes "proof of skill" to recruit VIP members.

Trick 4 — the recovery scam: after you lose money, they offer "special VIP signals" or an "account manager" to win it back — leading to deeper losses. Protect yourself: track the signals without trading (or on demo) for at least one month, recording every signal's outcome yourself — both SLs and TPs. The results you count personally are the only statistics you can trust.

Safety rules: (1) risk a maximum of 1–2% of capital per signal — size the lot from the SL distance, don't copy the provider's lot size, (2) never trade a signal without an SL, (3) if the entry has already passed by far (price ran 50+ pips beyond entry), don't chase — the Risk:Reward is no longer valid, (4) don't open an account through the provider's IB link without researching that broker yourself.

The long-term view: even the best signals never teach you to trade — you stay dependent forever. Use signals as a learning tool: for every signal, ask why they entered there, and what the SL is based on; compare it with your own analysis. The end goal should be analyzing on your own — which is exactly what this course is teaching you.
