Price has just broken the 20-day high — thousands of traders pile into buys, hoping to catch the big move... then the candle closes right back below, leaving them trapped at the very top. That is Turtle Soup: trading against a false breakout. It is a liquidity sweep packaged as a complete setup with clear rules — and it predates ICT by more than twenty years.

The name has a story. In the 1980s a famous group called the Turtle Traders followed a breakout strategy — buying when price broke the 20-day high.

Why do so many breakouts fail? Because the 20-day high is a level almost every trader is watching. Sellers park their stop losses just above it, and breakout traders place buy-stops there too — all of it pooling into one large block of liquidity. And smart money needs that liquidity to fill its own large orders. If you have read the liquidity lesson, you already know what happens next: price spikes up to grab those stops, then reverses straight back down.

The most important part of this lesson is step 3: the candle close. Without it you are not trading Turtle Soup — you are standing in front of a train.

That is close to 1:3 RR. Everything hinges on step 3: the close. If the candle closes above 3360, it is a real breakout — never sell. If it closes back below, it is a Turtle Soup. You do not trade the wick — you trade the close.
