Revenge Trading —

Most trading accounts are not destroyed by bad analysis — they are destroyed in roughly the 10 minutes after one painful loss. Revenge trading means opening a trade immediately after losing, with a single goal: get the money back as fast as possible. It is not a strategy — it is the reaction to an emotional injury, wearing the mask of trading. In those 10 minutes, your brain is in its worst possible state for decision-making: hurt, angry, and desperate to erase the pain. This lesson explains why the brain demands revenge, the revenge spiral that destroys accounts, and the 10-Minute Protocol that breaks it before it begins.
A normal loss (plan-compliant, risking 1-2%) cannot destroy an account. What destroys accounts is the decision made while in pain, immediately after that loss: a revenge trade with a bigger lot, no plan, and no SL. The real battlefield is therefore not on the chart — it is the 10 minutes after a loss, which you must cross without clicking an order.
• Wanting to double the lot to "win it all back in one shot."
• Feeling the market "owes" you money or is working "against" you.
• Wanting to remove the Stop Loss because "this one cannot be allowed to lose."
Psychology explains this urge through two mechanisms. First, Loss Aversion: the pain of losing $100 weighs about twice as much as the joy of gaining $100 — so after a loss, the brain does not think about the next opportunity; it thinks only about erasing the present pain. Second, the Break-Even Effect: research shows that people who are down accept abnormally large risks just to get back to even. This is the same mechanism that makes casino gamblers chase losses until nothing is left — and the market collects money the same way.
The difference is that professionals have a clear, pre-set protocol for exactly what to do in those minutes.
You cannot choose the first emotion — but you can choose the next action.
This spiral is what happens when those 10 minutes go unmanaged: loss → anger/tilt → oversized unplanned trade → bigger loss → repeat. The most dangerous point: each turn is entered with less capital and worse judgment — so the spiral gets faster and larger until the account is gone.
Because you know in advance that the 10 minutes after a loss are the most dangerous, you can prepare a protocol ahead of time — so that nothing has to be decided while in pain:
This rule is non-negotiable — because by that point, you are no longer in a state fit to judge.
